Expand your business horizons with the best travel hashtags
Travel businesses and Instagram marketing are truly made for one another. Whether you specialize in relaxing seaside holidays, rugged adventure travel or vibrant city getaways, the app’s emphasis on aesthetics is a perfect match for the most stunning imagery you can throw at it.
And now more than ever, consumers are craving an escape—virtual or otherwise—and looking to Instagram for their fix.
The platform has evolved, and that evolution is great for businesses. Instagram users are no longer simply seeking to share their photos and keep tabs on their friends. They’re coming across new brands to follow and interact with, and they are enjoying it.
The trick is to help them find you. Instagram boasts more than one billion users per month. That’s a lot of noise to cut through. So how can you get noticed?
Put your best foot forward with the best Instagram hashtags for your travel business.
What are the best Instagram travel hashtags?
Chances are, you’re already on Instagram. You probably already know the ins and outs of creating an amazing grid. But a gorgeous feed is useless if no one sees it. To attract viewers and followers, you need to drop breadcrumbs, or use hashtags.
The best travel hashtags for your travel agency or business
Instagram is pretty saturated with travel hashtags. And many of them are absolutely huge: #travel has more than half a billion posts. So putting all your eggs into that hashtag basket isn’t something we recommend.
Instead, get more specific. Here are some ideas to get you going:
#beachtravel
#getawaytravel
#getaway
#weekendgetaway
#vacationtime
#holidaytravel
#luggage
#vacay
#wanderlust
#wanderlusting
#wanderluster
#travelfashion
There are many, many more. So how many should you use? There’s no universally accepted answer to this question. Instagram will let you slap 30 hashtags on a single post. There is also some research that has found that that the optimal number of hashtags for an Instagram post is 11, but this isn’t hard scientific evidence.
The starter list of hashtags won’t all apply to you, and you don’t want to limit yourself to just those, anyway. Instead, you can use them as a starting point to niche down and highlight what makes your business unique.
Discovering new travel hashtags
Type a hashtag such as #vacation into the search box. You’ll notice that Instagram provides a list of suggestions below the search box, along with the number of posts associated with each suggestion.
So, from #vacation, which has 125 million posts, we find #vacationmode (7 million), #vacationtime (5 million) #vacationvibes (1 million), #vacationforever (95,000) and #vacationrentalproperty (1,200).
You can also get more specific. This is really easy for travel businesses: simply add the destination or type of travel. For example, #beachvacation has 500,000 posts and #floridavacation has 225,0000.
You can repeat this process with any general hashtag to find dozens more hashtag “babies” to use.
Now that you’ve identified some great travel hashtags, experiment with them to see which ones resonate. Try different combinations on your posts until you find the hashtags that attract followers, convert them, and help you grow your business.
