Promo Video Ideas For Sports Brands

Are you looking for promo ideas for your sports brand?

Creating effective promo video content and getting out there is tough, especially if you’re on a small budget.

However, it’s certainly possible when you implement the right methods.

In this article, we’ll take you through some of the best sports brand promo videos and explain why they’re so successful.

We’ll also outline some ways you can take inspiration for your own video content.

Promo Video Ideas For Sports Brands

This video promo from Adidas is extremely effective for a multitude of reasons.

Firstly, it engages the viewer right from the offset. It features a narrator addressing the audience directly. He even starts his speech in a way that immediately grabs the viewer’s attention.

The voice-over then proceeds to indirectly address the current pandemic situation, and uses it to spur motivation for individuals to get back into sport.

The video displays all manner of sport, from ballet, to indoor climbing, boxing to skateboarding.

It therefore appeals to a huge number of people and makes it clear that the brand is not just intended for runners, for example.

There is a low synth beat throughout the ad, starting quietly and gaining volume and momentum towards the end, creating a kind of climax effect.

This gives the promo a sense of urgency and inspires action.

Thunderheart – Yle Sport Commercial

This next promo video example is from Thunderheart, which took home the award for “Best Sports Promo” in the BassAwards 2012.

Unlike the Adidas video above, this promo takes a much slower, drawn out approach to the cinematography.

It creates suspense and mystery with the black and white shooting and the exaggerated use of shadows and empty space. We don’t ever see the athlete’s face clearly, which, in conjunction with the epic movie trailer style voiceover makes for an enigmatic video display.

This video, above all, intrigues you and instills a sense of the epic.

There is also a bit of artfulness in the filmmaking which draws you in and makes you curious about the brand.

Centering the video around a figure also focuses attention onto one character. This intrigues viewers and they become invested in him, just like they would a protagonist in a film.

In other words, Thunderheart does a wonderful job using storytelling to make their promo video resonate with viewers.
